With 50 years under its belt, the studios were briefly evacuated due to a ‘small’ fire. If the smoke in the air is anything to go by, we can expect a flourish of Hollywood action in the near future
Fasten your seatbelts, because it’s about to get moving on Pinewood’s spectacular indoor scene. According to the Metropolitan Police, a fire broke out at Pinewood studios today. There are no reported injuries.
It’s unclear what the cause was at this stage, but the fire broke out at 2.30pm. “At 2.30pm today, emergency services were called to a small fire in the garden of Pinewood Studios,” tweeted the fire department. “The fire was under control and no injuries have been reported.”
The signs are that it was a temporary fire. Shortly after the initial announcement, the police’s verified emergency tweets account clarified: “Police say there is no ongoing risk to public at #Pinewood: there were a small amount of smoke and the fire has been contained.”
The stage has been closed to trade as a result of the fire, but film-makers have a longer window of opportunity in which to finish projects they’re currently shooting. If the smoke is anything to go by, they’ll have a smattering of colour to work with.
