It’s been four long years since we’ve heard from a platinum singing sensation who can be counted on to put us in shambles. Until now, that is: Tuesday afternoon, the 40-year-old British soul singer released her new single and we’re still shaking with shock.
Adele has most recently been keeping relatively quiet away from music, focusing on raising her son Angelo, but Wednesday she took to social media to unveil her new song “To Be Loved,” which is available to buy on iTunes right now. If you’re one of the lucky 50 people to get your hands on one on the day of its release, we suggest you give it a listen now.
Adele’s new tune is one of the most beautifully produced tunes of the year so far, leaving no doubts as to the sort of talent she is known for bringing to the table. It’s an anthemic ballad, filled with plucked strings, refracting wistful glory. “To be loved, loves me down to the core.” We know exactly who she means.
Adele’s solo music career began in 2008 and she is still going strong. Last year, she finished her world tour, entitled “25,” which sold 2.3 million tickets across 15 countries. According to Billboard, the tour yielded “45 Top 40 hits and more than a dozen Top 10s.” Her previous single, “Hello,” spent two months atop the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2015. Although she doesn’t appear to be taking any additional time off, Adele took some time off in the summers of 2012 and 2013 to deal with her pregnancies.
